20 Love Verses from Song of Solomon to Share with Your Love (2024)

The Bible is full of the concept of love, because after all, it is the essence of who God is. In this post I want to share some of the love verses from Song of Solomon for those of you who are looking for a truely romantic story.

So, get cozy in your favorite chair or wrap your hands around your favorite warm drink and let’s get started!

Song of Solomon contains beautiful verses which describe that dizzy, rose-colored glass, honeymoon “in love” kind of love between Solomon and his young bride. It is full of figurative language which at first glance might make you smile (such as admiring each other’s physique with words such as pomegranates, does, and gazelles) and is a lovely expression of one of Solomon’s true relationships.

“I have come to my garden, my sister, my spouse, I have gathered my myrrh with my spice, I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk.” As you can see, it can get a bit steamy if you read between the lines, and the expression of intimacy is healthy for all married couples. No compilation of romantic verses in the Bible would be complete without this love story.

These love verses from the Song of Solomon are perfect to write on a note, send in a text, or highlight in your spouse’s Bible. They will make them laugh because the language is so different from our’s today, while touching their hearts at the same time.

Study the Song of Solomon together with your spouse or use these notes on a Valentine’s Day or Anniversary card. You can’t go wrong when you let God’s words speak for you.

Love Verses From Song of Solomon

I think a little history on Song of Solomon will help make sense of the book so I’ve included a brief summary and explanation at the end, but they are not needed to understand these verses. I do encourage you to read the entire book because it is saturated with love verses that are applicable to marriage.

I hope you enjoy my favorite love verses from Song of Solomon!

Song of Solomon 1:2

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—For your love is better than wine.

Song of Solomon 2:3-4

Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, So is my beloved among the sons. I sat down in his shade with great delight, And his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love.

Song of Solomon 2:10

My beloved spoke, and said to me: “Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away.

Song of Solomon 2:16

My beloved is mine, and I am his. He feeds his flock among the lilies.

Song of Solomon 4:10-11

How fair is your love, My sister, my spouse! [a term of endearment in those days, not his biological sister] How much better than wine is your love, And the scent of your perfumes Than all spices! Your lips, O my spouse, Drip as the honeycomb; Honey and milk are under your tongue; And the fragrance of your garments Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

A Little Background on These Love Verses from Song of Solomon

I have often thought that Song of Solomon, also known as “Song of Songs”, feels a little out of place in the Bible. It contains no direct communication from God, no praise to HIm or instruction on living a godly life. There is no history and no prophetic content that I am aware of and it appears that God is only mentioned once.

What does it contain then? A beautiful love story and a celebration of marriage which is the closest relationship God has given us here on earth.

Song of Solomon was written by King Solomon at some point during his reign, 971-931 BC. Solomon was the son of King David and was both the wealthiest and wisest man of his time.

Solomon wrote several books in the Bible including Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, but this one is personal. It shows the importance of embracing the romantic side of marriage and the need for intimacy. He expresses this sentiment when warning against adultery in Proverbs 5:18-19.

Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice withthe wife of your youth. As aloving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times.

We know that by the end of his reign, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. It is thought that the love verses from Song of Solomon are written for his one true love. It teaches us that the excitement and strong feelings of love are normal as well as other feelings that come with marriage such as fear and jealousy.

However, the Bible being the spiritual book that it is, we must also explore the idea that it is an allegory or at the very least meant to encourage us toward an intimate relationship with God. Jewish leaders of the 7th century AD taught that it was a symbolic relationship between Yahweh and His beloved Israel.

Early Christians also described the book as a symbolic relationship between Christ and either the individual or the church as a whole. For many societies over the years, it has been inappropriate to write or speak about the sexual side of marriage, thus the need to bring in the allegory theory. I am not dismissing this and firmly believe that we can study the love verses in Song of Solomon from both angles.

I do have a post on love, a less romantic kind of love, and it’s simply stated as I wrote it with children in mind. I encourage you to check it out!
