DoubleTree Cookies (Famous Recipe) (1)

The DoubleTree hotel chain is known for greeting their guests with the most amazing chocolate chip cookies. In fact, they bake over 30 million of these cookies every single year! But since their introduction in 1986, Hilton has kept the signature recipe secret. Until recently!

The hotel finally made their famous Doubletree cookie recipe public, so instead of making copycat recipes, I immediately made their authentic recipe to see if they would turn out…and they definitely did!

DoubleTree Cookies (Famous Recipe) (2)

Have you ever had DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies? You’d know if you did, because they’re pretty unforgettable. With a gazillion chocolate chip cookie recipes in existence, what could possibly make DoubleTree cookies so notable, though? Let’s break it down!

What’s So Special About DoubleTree Cookies

  • For starters, they’re big! Each cookie uses about 3 tablespoons of dough, so nobody feels cheated by just having one.
  • There’s a lot of butter, so these are extra flavorful.
  • A bit of lemon juice is added to the dough, which makes the cookies loftier and chewier.
  • A pinch of cinnamon is included, but it’s just enough to take the cookies up a level.
  • Old fashioned rolled oats are added for texture and flavor.
  • Walnuts lend a great nutty flavor and balance out the sweetness from the sugar and chocolate.
  • The dough freezes beautifully and you can bake right from frozen portions, no need to thaw first.

How to Make Their DoubleTree Cookie Recipe

Here’s a quick breakdown of how to make these cookies. (See below for the complete printable recipe.)

  1. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for a couple minutes.
  2. Add in eggs, vanilla, and lemon juice, blending on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy, scraping down the bowl.
  3. With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.
  4. Remove bowl from mixer and stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
  5. Portion dough with a scoop (about 3 tablespoons – yep, big!) onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake in a preheated 300 degree oven for 20-23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
  7. Remove from oven and cool on baking sheets for about 1 hour.

Recipe Notes

  • If your cookies end up hard, it’s probably due to baking too long or at a higher temperature than the recipe calls for (300 degrees F is not a typo!) It could also be because your ingredients weren’t fresh or you didn’t measure your flour properly – make sure you spoon and level.
  • If your cookies are flat, it could be that your butter was too soft or even the slightest bit melted before adding it to the dough. If the dough seems overly soft, refrigerate it for about 20 minutes before baking. Living in a high altitude area can also have an effect.

How Long Do Doubletree Cookies Last?

Baked cookies are best eaten within 3 days. To keep the cookies soft after baking, make sure they cool completely and then transfer them to an airtight container and store at room temperature.

How to Freeze DoubleTree Cookies: you can freeze the unbaked cookies, and there’s no need to thaw first before baking.
To Freeze: Portion out the cookie dough into balls onto a large baking sheet and freeze for a few hours until solid, then transfer the frozen cookie dough balls to a freezer-safe plastic bag or airtight container for up to 2 months. Bake right from the freezer.
To Bake: Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. and place frozen cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake according to recipes directions until the edges are golden brown and center is still soft (adding an extra 1-2 minutes, if necessary.)
